The Plan

We are off on the ferry bound for Caen then we drive across France to Switzerland at Basel and on to St Gallen. We have an overnight stop in Burnhaupt-le-Haut along the way.
After 5 nights with our friends in St Gallen we set off once again via Geneva and an overnight stop in Charolles in France then arrive in Jard-sur-Mer on the next day.
After 2 weeks there we drive to St Malo for two nights before getting the ferry home.

Tuesday 6th September 2011

Today Esmé starts her final year in the Infants school; where did that time go? Tuesday 6th September 2011 ~ Scroll down for photos ~

We managed to wake up a bit earlier today and I did a little cross stitch first thing and then after a good breakfast we set off on a cycle ride. The day was very blustery, though warm and humid.

First we cycled through Jard to the forest entrance and along the sheltered routes to St Vincent sur Jard; again this route is only labelled as ‘no cycling’ from the Jard end but not any other entrances. We didn’t stop at the usual café area but continued on stopping to peep at the sea from time to time but the wind was so strong we didn’t want to linger.

Further on through more off road bits and back roads and we reached La Rocher at the end of a very long road through the forest. This was the nearest beach area for the happy campers under Helen’s care in 2003, it would have been quite a hike especially for young families but there is a fair amount of free parking along the way.

We stopped at a café right on the beach and had a hot chocolate; we managed to sit behind a Perspex screen thus avoiding the biting sand.

After a little break we were off again through some lovely cycle paths but sadly I began to get very tired and so probably long before Percy would have wanted we turned back towards Jard.

Returning to St Vincent we stopped for a crêpe and beignet which are like rather large, very light apple doughnuts and served warm.

The last stretch home was very hard work as we were cycling through custard straight into a gale!!! (Well that’s how it felt)

Back home and I relaxed and slowly recuperated on the couch while Percy did some more video editing, then I read a little before supper.
