The Plan

We are off on the ferry bound for Caen then we drive across France to Switzerland at Basel and on to St Gallen. We have an overnight stop in Burnhaupt-le-Haut along the way.
After 5 nights with our friends in St Gallen we set off once again via Geneva and an overnight stop in Charolles in France then arrive in Jard-sur-Mer on the next day.
After 2 weeks there we drive to St Malo for two nights before getting the ferry home.

We slept reasonably well though somewhat disturbed by traffic noise but had to have the window open.

As we have paid €13 for the breakfast we have made the most of the buffet and stoked up for the day! Then we set off for a walk into the old walled town.

It was warm very humid and threatening to rain but we are only here for a day so that’s it.

A good walk around the town, a little shopping then lunch in a Crêperie where Percy had a Galette Simple with ham, cheese and an egg and I had a St Jaques with scallops, mushrooms, onions and cream; they were both excellent and we also had un bolée of cider which was about a third of a pint served in a stoneware cup. We had a large café crème to finish and it was all very nice.

We kept hearing and seeing a group of re-enactment soldiers, English we think, driving round dressed as GIs from WWII. They were on Military Police motorcycles and a small Jeep. All good fun.

Another thing we witnessed was the arrival of many wedding parties coming into the town and going to the Hotel de Ville for their civil ceremonies. Some were quite tasteful but there was one hopelessly tacky; you will guess which that was when you see the photos!!

We walked across to one of the little islands at low tide along a causeway and then walked back to the hotel. This takes nearly an hour with photo stops along the way.

We had to ask for towels when we returned to our room as they had all vanished; then we have come down to the salon, covered in bite repellent as we think we were bitten here last night!! We have been badly surprised that a dog was allowed into the dining room this morning and that we saw another in this salon having had 5 bites myself and Percy having at least one. My Trip Advisor report should be interesting!
